XGI Plans Latest: PCI Express, DX9 Graphics.1 XG45 chips – in March
Our news has repeatedly noted the plans of XGI Technology, which last year announced the imminent update of its graphics chip family and support for the PCI Express bus. In particular, the full XGI roadmap for 2021 – 2021, published by us back in early November 2021, announced plans to replace the most productive GPUs of the company – V8 Ultra and Volari V5 Ultra, respectively, with optimized for DirectX 9.1 XG45 and XG46 chips. It is these processors in the XGI line of chips that are receiving the most attention right now, since it is their success or failure that can significantly affect the company’s plans to seriously enter the market of productive graphics for desktop PCs.
Today, our colleagues from the Chinese site GZeasy have published some clarifications regarding the most immediate plans for XGI. It is reported that the appearance of the first samples of the XG45 chip, fully supporting DirectX 9.1, Pixel Shaders 3.0 and Vertex Shaders 3.0, expected in March. Thus, the appearance of the first graphics cards on these GPUs can be expected in July ? august. Fresh information, which is important, fully correlates with the early plans of the company, which promised the appearance of the XG45 in the second half of 2021.
As for the PCI Express bus support coming in DirectX 9.0 XG41 and XG42 chips – respectively, to replace the Volari V5 and V8, here the company has to work great not so much on support for PCI Express 16x, but on the performance and heat dissipation of the chips. For, as the practice of testing current retail boards on the Volari Duo V8 Ultra shows, these solutions from XGI cannot yet be called competitive either in terms of price or characteristics.
