May 23, · We have not been to Potos but have been to Golden beach 4 times. When we first started looking at Thassos pictures of the beach looked coarser sand in Potos than of Golden Beach. Also lots of taverna choices in Golden Beach, one end is fairly packed Potamia end in holiday season the Panagia end looked a bit quieter which was just what we wanted.. We tended to go late June and eventually . Travel forums for Thasos. Discuss Thasos travel with Tripadvisor travelers. Thasos. A chip in every wheel: to the delight of semiconductor firms, unfortunately for auto manufacturers
According to Western media reports, the North American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (if I may say so, the Highway Safety Administration) is going to introduce a new rule for the sale of car tires, according to which a microprocessor will be installed in each wheel. Accordingly, this could open up a new market for semiconductor chip manufacturers, estimated at about 80 million. units per year.
Despite objections from auto makers, NHTSA did not rely on cheaper wheel chamber air pressure testing technologies. The new rules will affect about 16 million. new machines sold annually in North America. Each of the cars is equipped, as a rule, with 5 wheels, respectively, the total number of tires is 80 million. In addition to the same number of microprocessors, auto manufacturers will have to order millions of RF receivers and displays from home appliance manufacturers. The NHTSA’s decision is not yet final, but is based on the Tread Act already adopted by Congress (and it also describes an alternative approach to monitoring air pressure in the chamber, implemented on top of anti-lock ABS systems). Also, the timing of the adoption of the new rules is not known.
There are now many companies that make microprocessors and pressure sensors in chambers. Fears are expressed that small companies unable to provide a large number of products will be crushed by new rules. However, a considerable number of large companies will surely take such a development of the situation with joy: Infineon, Motorola, Philips, STMicoelectronics and Texas Instruments, Bosch Automotive, Delphi Automotive, Siemens VDO, SmarTire Systems, TRW Automotive and Visteon.
The “gentleman’s kit” for the wheel will consist of a 4-bit RISC microprocessor, an analog-to-digital converter, a high-frequency transceiver and a small read-only memory (about 4 KB). According to various estimates, the cost of installing such systems in a car will be from $ 65 to $ 200, which, in general, is not much for expensive cars, but noticeable for cars of the so-called budget class. The reluctance of some auto manufacturers to install new systems in cars has even led to repeated appeals to the White House for help. General Motors, in particular, gives an example of the successful use of the indirect method based on ABS.
