Changes in the graphics chip market: ATI comes out on top
As follows from the latest data on the market of graphics chips and adapters for the fourth quarter of 2021, published by Mercury Research, the alignment of forces in the top three graphics vendors has changed: for the first time in a long time, NVIDIA and ATI have swapped places.
Intel continues to take first place with 31.7%, which reflects sales of integrated chipsets, while the company’s market share decreased by 3.2%; ATI took the second place, having won 24.9%, and NVIDIA, respectively, is now in third place with a share of 24.7%.
ATI’s market share growth was driven solely by higher sales of desktop graphics adapters amid declining sales of NVIDIA adapters. Previously, the situation in this segment was different, and NVIDIA still managed to lead. According to analysts, ATI’s partnership with manufacturers such as Asustek and Microstar will increase its share of the desktop graphics adapter market.
In the segment of solutions for laptops, NVIDIA is also plagued by setbacks: instead of the expected growth in sales, its market share fell, albeit by a little less than 1%, but even this was enough for analysts to start expressing concerns.
