Global Memory Market: Spot Markets Equalize

The assumptions turned out to be correct – and after the decline
prices for processors the price of chips and memory modules on the world market has slightly increased.
Moreover, this is true not only for SDR SDRAM, but also for DDR SDRAM. Price 256
MB of OEM DDR333 modules was about $ 36.2, the price of 256 MB of DDR400 modules
– about $ 36.6. The rise in prices for DDR400 is associated, as noted by exchange participants,
not so much with a real demand for this type of memory, as with circulating on
market with rumors of impending demand. Also, as seen from the existing
price difference for 256 MB DDR333 and DDR400 modules, the latest type of memory now
much more interested in traders. In general, the situation with prices for modules
does not differ very much from region to region in terms of prices – they differ only
directions of their change.

So, for example, on the Asian Semiconductor Exchange, a rise in prices was noted, and in Hong Kong
the price has been stable for about a week and a half. However, it should be noted that
for the most part, prices on different exchanges coincide: in Hong Kong, the notorious
256MB OEM DDR333 DIMMs cost just $ 0.20 less than Asia
semiconductor.

The restraint of prices on most exchanges is due to the cautious behavior of traders
at the end of the month, however, if prices do not start to drop during the remaining days of October,
in early November, the market may witness an increase in demand for memory and,
perhaps even a small (within 5%) increase in contract prices relative to
of the present moment. The end of the month also affected the demand for chips and SDR SDRAM modules
– the rate of growth in prices for chips has decreased, modules have not risen in price for several days.
