AMD to increase production of flash memory chips in 2021

FASL LLC, a joint venture between Advanced Micro Devices and Fujitsu dedicated to
release of flash memory, plans to increase the release of chips to meet the upcoming
growth in demand for these products. By the end of 2021, more than 80% of FASL capacity using
norms of 110-nm technical process, will be allocated for the production of 128 Mbit chips, this will be
more than 60% of the company’s total chip production.

It is planned to increase the production of chips at Fab 25 and JV3 factories, moreover, the number of
microcircuits produced at the first factory, made using the norms of 0.11
and 0.13-micron technical processes (in conventional chips – 128 Mbit) by the end of the year will exceed the number of
chips produced in the last quarter of this year 8 times. Increased output
chips using the standards of 0.11-micron technical process in 2021, according to representatives
of the company, will allow “support” the floating gate chips in the market and
MirrorBit (both lines are based on NOR technology).

As a reminder, currently the products manufactured by FASL LLC are offered
on the market under the brand name Spansion. Cooperate in the field of flash memory production of the company
started in 1993 by creating Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor headquartered in Japan.
After quite lengthy negotiations, the companies decided to expand the scope of the joint
Activities: AMD has placed its Fab 25 factory in Texas under FASL jurisdiction, a research
Submicron Development Center in California and several assembly shops and
technical control departments in Thailand, Malaysia and China. Fujitsu has transferred
enterprise assets of its Malaysian plant.
