According to the BBC and the EE Times, British physicist Tim Berners-Lee received a knighthood from Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain on New Year’s Eve. Order of the British Empire). Sir Berners-Lee received his title for inventing the World Wide Web, and currently leads the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).

Sir Berners-Lee graduated from King’s College, Oxford University in 1976. As a student, he soldered his first personal computer on the M6800 processor (in the late 80s, self-assembly of PCs on the Z80 even became fashionable). In 1980, Berners-Lee worked at CERN (European Center for the Study of Elementary Particles in Geneva), and at the same time he wrote his program for storing information based on randomly established connections, by analogy with how (in theory) the human brain works. Later, this program (called the Enquire) formed the basis of the concept from which WWW grew.

In the same place, at CERN, but already in 1989, Berners-Lee suggested using hypertext and introduced the term “web”. The first httpd server and World Wide Web client was released in 1990. Server and client used a meta-language to format the displayed documents, called HTML. By the summer of 1991, HTML code and documentation were available to the entire Internet community. In 1994, under the auspices of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the W3C consortium was created, coordinating the development of HTML technologies and the most “ubiquitous web” of the World Wide Web so far.
