NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 XT: cards, money, two chips
Some time ago, information on the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 XT chip began to appear on the Web. It seems that now is the time to summarize the already known data on this topic in order to better understand the positioning of new items in the general GPU line, including price positioning.
The GeForce FX 5600 XT chip is nothing more than the already well-known FX5600 with a clock frequency reduced to 235 MHz. Thus, the use of the “XT” suffixes by ATI and NVIDIA should not be confused: in the former it means an advanced version of the chip, in the latter, on the contrary, less productive and inexpensive.
The latest data from China brings various and outlandish data on the GeForce FX 5600 XT chip. For example, here is a photo of the G5618XT graphics card from the Chinese manufacturer UNIKA, published today on the GZeasy website.
Please note: the GeForce FX 5600 XT chip is made in an FC-BGA package:
This is how this packaging option is implemented:
At the same time, pay attention to another photo of the card with another version of the GeForce FX 5600 XT chip, in the BGA package:
Andrey Vorobyov, editor of our “Video System” section, has an interesting guess-guess: it is quite possible that the GeForce FX 5600 XT chips in the first case are a rejection of the new GeForce FX 5600 Ultra processors, while in the case of a BGA case, a rejection regular GeForce FX 5600. It is quite possible that the use of the GeForce FX 5600 XT in the FC-BGA version will have a favorable effect on the card stability.
As for the UNIKA G5618XT card, it is equipped with 128 MB of 128-bit 3.6 ns DDR memory, the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600XT chip operates at a clock frequency of 235 MHz. The card has analog, digital DVI and TV outputs. In addition, according to the German website TweakPC, such cards are produced by Palit and Leadtek.
The most productive model from Leadtek on the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600XT chip will be equipped with 256 MB of 128-bit memory. The second model will be released in a version with 128MB of 128-bit memory, and finally, a version with 128MB of 64-bit DDR memory will also be released.
There is no data yet on the clock frequencies of the chips / memory of GeForce FX 5600XT cards from Leadtek, the packaging of the GPUs used in these cards is also unknown, however, approximate prices for these cards in Germany are already being reported: the 256 MB version will cost about 150 euros, both 128 MB versions will cost no more than 130 euros. There are no specific dates for the appearance of such cards, however, it is reported that they should appear in retail before the end of November.
By the way, TweakPC also gives an approximate price level expected in Europe for cards with new GeForceFX 5700/5950 series chips. Judging by these data, a card from Leadtek on the “regular” GeForceFX 5700 will cost about 159 euros in Germany at the time of its appearance, a variant from Leadtek on GeForceFX 5950 Ultra with 256 MB of memory and VIVO functionality – about 449 euros.
