USB Flash Drive Alliance: New Industry Union to Promote USB Flash Drive
New Organization for the Standardization and Promotion of USB Flash Cards ? UFDA (USB Flash Drive Alliance), established last week. The core of the new organization was made up of such companies as Genesys Logic, Kingston Technology, Lexar Media, PNY Technologies and Samsung Semiconductor, Crucial, Microsoft, SimpleTech and Viking Interworks expressed their desire to take part in the forum as associated participants.
The new association has already acquired its own website ? www.usbflashdrive.org, where, in addition to the press release on the formation of the organization, the definition of a USB flash drive, a short FAQ on the same topic, plus links to the sites of the alliance members are flaunting. There are no special documents so far, therefore, it is still difficult to say whether the UFDA is a standard-setting association or just a marketing group to promote its products.
P.S. In light of the recent news from Microsoft about the upcoming licensing of FAT file system extensions in such devices, a common question arises: will UFDA members receive special discounts?? 😉
