IPSiO G: Inkjet Gel Printers from Ricoh
In the inkjet market, and before that it was quite close, there was another player in the face of the Japanese company Ricoh. Yesterday, the company held a press conference at its Tokyo office, at which a new brand was announced ? IPSiO G, as well as the first models and technological features of the series.
Ricoh representatives really had something to tell the audience, as the company announced not only its original positioning of inkjet printers, but also the ways in which it will achieve success in a new market for it. Unlike its competitors, which are positioning inkjet printers primarily for home use, Ricoh intends to market its products exclusively to the high-speed office printing market.
The main problem when trying to dramatically increase print speed is the drying rate of the ink. According to Ricoh representatives, the company was able to cope with this task, and now intends to “wedge” with its products between the current inkjet printers and color laser printing – in about the same niche as modern office laser, but monochrome printers. Affordable inkjet color for low-end and mid-range office printing sectors – this is the market for new printers from Ricoh.
Ricoh’s high-speed color inkjet technology is based on three new technologies, the most important of which is the so-called “gel” pigment inks. Their main difference from conventional pigment inks from competitors is the following: the liquid reagent of Ricoh’s new high-viscosity inks is instantly absorbed in contact with the paper, as a result of which the liquid ink turns into a long-lasting, dry, moisture-resistant gel.
Ricoh’s other two new technologies include a very high-capacity ink cartridge and a fast paper feed mechanism. The new printers are equipped with four ink cartridges, the print head with a width of 32.3 mm is equipped with 384 or 192 nozzles (for each color), through which ink is ejected under high pressure using M-Dot technology (Modulated Dot Technology).
The oldest of the CMYK models presented yesterday ? IPSiO G707, equipped with four printheads with 384 nozzles, a 500-sheet paper tray and allows color printing at 8.5 A4 sheets per minute, monochrome printing at 14 sheets per minute, while, if you do not take into account 9 seconds, per first print, the printer delivers continuous color print speeds of up to 20 ppm. Maximum print resolution for IPSiO G707 model ? 3600 x 1200 dpi, at the same time, ordinary office, recycled, glossy paper, color photo paper, etc. can be used.P., sizes A4 and less. The cost of one color print is declared by the company at the level ¥8.3 per A4 sheet, or ¥2.3 per A4 sheet in monochrome (respectively, about 2.27 rubles and 63 kopecks. per sheet, however, the percentage of filling is not indicated. Most likely, it is taken as 5% by default for office models).
The model is equipped with a USB 2 interface.0, RPCS is used as the bitmap printing language. Dimensions of the model ? 490 x 460 x 218 mm, weight 11 kg, power consumption – no more than 30 W, maximum noise level – 48 dB, supported operating systems ? Windows 95/98 / Me / NT 4.0/2000 / XP, Windows Server 2021.
Entry-level model ? IPSiO G505, equipped with C / M / Y / K cartridges with 192 nozzles each, capable of printing at speeds up to 7 ppm A4 in color and up to 9 ppm in monochrome; after issuing the first print after 10 seconds, the printer produces up to 19 color prints per minute. The print resolution and paper used are declared the same as for the G707, power consumption is about 27 W, noise is no more than 45 dB, dimensions ? 403 x 440 x 218 mm, weight 9.8 kg, supported OS – the same.
It only remains to add that both models will appear in retail in February 2021 and initially only in Japan. The price of IPSiO G707 will be about $ 800, the price of IPSiO G505 ? about $ 540.
