Toshiba bleaching ink: saving on paper and recycling

Toshiba intends to start selling special toners for heat-discolored printers next week, Toshiba said in a press release. The “e-blue” product line of decolorizing toner, heat treatment machine, and decolorizing ink pen is designed for corporations and users looking to save on paper reuse.

In addition to opportunities to save money on new paper purchases, Toshiba cites a reduction in the burden on the recycling industry – reusing paper in the office does not have to be collected and recycled in the factory. Toshiba developed the first prototype for fading ink in September 1998. And now, in five years, the company is ready to start selling its innovative product.

Sales of “e-blue” products will start on December 8. At first, it is planned to sell them only in Japan at prices of about 20,000 yen per toner ($ 185) and 300 yen for a pen and marker ($ 2.76). The price of a machine for heat treatment of packs of paper of 400-500 sheets (in the center in the first photo) remains open.

In the usual method of printing, a dye in microcapsules and a reagent that destroys the capsule shell when heated is applied to the paper.

Toshiba bleach has a bleaching agent that chemically reacts with a dye at about 140 degrees Celsius and removes it from the surface of the paper.
